Dell XPS m1330 Loud CD/DVD Drive Problem

The m1330 is an awesome laptop, you’ll got a ton of looks if you take it to a public place. I’ve learned after researching and using other slot-loading drives that the sound is normal for slot-loading drive. Otherwise the laptop is perfect.

Yes Yes Yes and YES, i got a replacement laptop due to the iffy GPU, Dell kindly replace my old xps with the refurbished M1330, now i see the Cd ROM is failing same noise, same squeak, same everything, when i open up My Computer folder to view all the drives, sometimes the CD rom device icon is not there, some times it is, but at alltimes it wont access the Cd Rom drive at all ???
you can click on it over 100 times or right mouse button on it and select ope or explore but nothing will happen.

my macbook pro has the same problem…

  • Britishfever456:

I have this problem too… Luckily I don’t use the DVD drive much so I’ve stuck a blank disc in there and disabled the media bay in the BIOS settings. When I want to use a CD or DVD its easily enabled by pressing F12 at boot up and enabling the media bay drive.

  • FTBLN:

the m1330 doesn’t necessarily come with OLED. stop your insults dude

  • YSDallali:

Dude, Exactly the same sound and tone and everything, It isn’t something wrong with your laptop only, it’s a common M1330 thing. So relax. My drive stopped working a while ago, and i’m planning on getting a new one.

  • willie14n:

  • cietod88:

  • jroq6597:

Yes, it has an LCD screen, but, he is referring to the fact that it is ‘LED’ (Light Emitting Diode) backlit.

  • MultiYippee:

u typed LED its LCD for liquid crystal Display

  • Saleen5000:

My dad works 4 dell and he got more than half the parts 4 the dell xps m1330 Including the motherboard lol and so where gonna make it

  • tangsta35:

Actually you are wrong, This sound is not normal for slot loading drives. I have never heard a slot loading MacBook sound like that. I have a Dell XPS M1330 and I have been through 4 drives (thank god for 3yr complete care). I would have to say that the first drive I had was the quietest, but it kept stuttering when I play music CDs. The one I have now is just as loud if not louder than yours, I get embarrassed to listen to CD’s in class, so I just disable my drive in the bios all together!

  • Bloodsoldr:

    Lol i love that sound!

  • Averlinden11:

    wat was your specs?

  • Averlinden11:

It wasnt a bug it was just a designe issue with the chip causing it to overheat and Die

  • Averlinden11:

Will its nvidias fault on the GPU. The optical drive they use is from the company Teac. Earlyier versions had this issue but about a year ago they got better about not making so much noise

  • user12119:

Sounds like someone blowing their noise lol. My dell studio slot load is quite loud but yours is defiantly louder.

  • champiko62:

my dell xps m1330 has a fingerprint scanner…. nice!!!

  • elixier22:

or you can just mod the heatsink a tiny bit duh. and its a motherboard replacement not a graphics card bloody hell

  • talcaforever:

    That model is bullshit.
the service guy had changed my graphic card once when then my dvd slot and motherboard (I’, running XP). I was kinda lucky just ‘cos I’d paid extra garanty so it covered that job. another extra year garanty cost about 200 euros (LOL)!
I’m thinking that it’s not the big deal changing parts by parts every 4 months… why dell doesn’t change the whole fucking pc? or why dell insist on selling that piece of shit?

  • Pizzscn:

or you can replace it with a tray loading drive.

  • kutluakpinar:

there is a further problem which you may not recognized yet:

have you ever tried to enter a small size cd? I did.
It was too difficult to take it back!
