Question by nc_dixieman: Can Dell XPS 420 desktops handle 8 GB of memory?
I’m thinking of purchasing a Dell XPS 420 computer but on the customizing part… 4 GB seems to be the max Dell will allow one to add to the order. I realize on a 32-bit OS that 4 GB is the max (3 GB actually) but I was just wondering if the machine itself can support 8 GB should I purchase the PC and then add my own 64-bit OS. Thanks.

Nope. It can only handle 4GB.

The XPS 420 has 4 RAM slots.Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

I don’t care about Price. ETA of the system is a major part, I’m willing to spend up to ,000 on computer, screen, and accessories.

Would a top-notch Dell XPS desktop be a good buy?

Baring in mind I’m not building or buying part seperately. I am looking in particular for people who have used the XPS 600
I am looking for people with experience with this product in particular.

Saying that a particular brand is difficult to upgrade doesn’t make sense because that’s downplaying every model they have superficially. Put some research and heart into it.

Have you checked out the HP DV4. I have one from www.qvc.com with 2 gb ram and 500 hard drive with a multi-layer DVD player. And it ROCKS. Was a great Price too.
